Glam + Go, Santa Monica’s Stylish Little Secret

By Lizbeth Scordo

Glam + Go, the award-winning salon located inside the Fairmont Miramar, could easily go by another name: Small + Mighty. The shop, with its trio of stylist stations, takes up just a small sliver of chic space off the hotel’s lobby, but it does a dazzling amount with it, offering a roster of salon services for any occasion.

“We get locals, women on their way to work, guests here on business trips, [people visiting] for trade shows [and] conferences, entertainment industry people, and lots of wedding parties and special events,” says Amanda Korber, Glam + Go’s national marketing manager who manages the company’s Los Angeles locations. “That’s what’s so nice about being at the Fairmont, there’s a lot of opportunity here. We get everybody.”

That’s also why Glam + Go’s Fairmont location keeps longer hours than most of its other outposts, open seven days a week starting at 7am most days and blow-drying and beautifying well into the evening to keep up with demand.

The salon is probably best known for its menu of customizable blowout services, created by stylists who utilize not just hairdryers but also pro-grade appliances like flat-irons and style wands (think of them as modern-day versions of the curling iron). Clients can choose from a menu of looks including the just-like-it-sounds Straight & Sleek, the Serious Curves for those coveting big, loose curls, and the salon’s most popular style, The Beach Body. Meant to look effortless (though it’s anything but), it transforms tresses into tousled waves, giving the impression that you just stepped off the sands of nearby Santa Monica Beach. “There’s just a little bounce. It’s not a super styled look. It’s just very fresh,” says Korber.

If they’re looking for something a bit more custom, clients can go off-menu, too. “A lot of people don’t know what they want and kind of figure it out while they’re sitting there with a stylist,” Korber shares. She advises finding a few looks you love (Instagram’s a great go-to for style spotting) and showing them to your stylist (along with what you don’t like) so you two can settle on the perfect look.

While Glam + Go’s signature blowout includes a wash in addition to the styling session and takes around 30 to 40 minutes, for those with a shorter window of time (like my-dinner-reservation’s-in-20 short), there’s also an express style blowout. You show up with clean hair and they’ll take care of the rest in about 15 minutes.

If you’ve got a little more time and are looking to add a touch of something dramatic or different, there’s also a menu of add-ons, from braids to buns to the perfect ponytail. The shop also offers root touchups, glosses, toners, and makeup applications.

Since Glam + Go just happens to be located at one of Santa Monica’s most coveted wedding venues, the salon also works with the Fairmont’s concierge and event and wedding planning teams to ensure smooth sailing for bridal parties on the big day. That might mean opening a few hours early on a Sunday, putting together a celebratory Champagne bar, setting up in-room services, styling even the littlest flower girls, or offering a buyout so the whole squad can have the place to themselves. “The Fairmont wants their guests to have amenities like these, so they’re just so supportive,” says Korber. “It’s all hands on deck, and we’re able to customize our services based on what clients want.”

Listening to what clients want informs the shop’s product choices, too. Glam + Go utilizes the luxe vegan and cruelty-free R+Co. line, made without parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, and petrolatum. “Santa Monica is a huge beauty, wellness, and health area,” explains Korber. “Everyone is very into taking care of themselves and being conscious.”

Those looking to indulge in blowouts on the regular can choose from a variety of monthly memberships (which can be used at any Glam + Go locatios, so if your next trip takes you to Manhattan or Miami, you’re covered). And last year, the salon became the first beauty and wellness brand to put its offerings on fitness app ClassPass, which means members can use their points to book and pay for a service. Because, let’s face it — sometimes you’re more in the mood for a blowout than a barre class.
